Theta Class Retreat

easter-sealsSave the date! March 5-7 is this semester’s New Member Education retreat.

The retreat will be from Friday night to Sunday morning at Camp Hemlocks, an Easter Seals camp in Hebron, CT. At Chapter I will pass around a sign up sheet so I know who is going. The new members and I would love it if everybody was there for it all but if, for some valid reason, you cannot be there the entire time please show up when you can and let me know on that sheet.

This retreat falls on the second week with a Theta class so it is the best time for them to get to know the rest of the brothers. Most only know a couple. In addition, this is the time to make a real connection with an associate especially since they pick their big brothers on Sunday. Details such as Friday’s departure time and place, ride coordination etc. are still to come.

Please make every effort to attend and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me anytime.

The organization with the most votes will win a $1 million grant, which for Push America will go to impacting the lives of people with disabilities all across the country. Voting is easy and only takes a few minutes. Please help by voting and passing along this information to all of your friends and family.

To vote, visit http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving/charities/227903. If you are not a fan of Chase Community Giving already, then allow access. Vote for Push America and then forward the link to everyone you know! Thank you for your support of Push America and people with disabilities during this exciting opportunity provided by JP Morgan Chase and Facebook!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the information below. Again, we will not be able to win without the support of the chapters and those at your universities so we appreciate anything you can do to make this a success

Gratefully yours,

It will be $185 for non-executive members but is a really great experience and fun weekend. I will be registering people in a few days so I would appreciate your prompt correspondence if you would like to go. Feel free to ask me for more information.

New Constitution Final Draft

An image of the official Pi Kappa Phi seal. The finalized draft for our new Chapter Constitution is available for review.  Many members of the Executive Council and our adviser, Paul Vasconcellos, have reviewed it and have provided useful modifications.  In terms of “why is this important” and “what is it,” think of the constitution as the operational guide or instruction manual for running the chapter.  Without a good constitution, no one knows how to make the machine function properly and no one knows where the parts fit together.  With a good constitution, you know precisely how to fix problems when they arise and where the parts go.  It also tells you what the machine’s parts do.

Since the voting ceremony on Sunday, November 29, should not take very long at all, I intend on having a very brief 10-minute presentation of the document.  After, we shall hold a ratification vote.  If you have any questions or concerns, you must contact me before that meeting so we can prepare a solution or solutions for the chapter to consider. My main goal was to make this document as non-controversial as possible, so I am not anticipating acrimonious debate or long deliberation about its contents. The Constitution is also available for download in PDF format.

Journey of Hope & Build America Arrival

This summer was full of tradition. Again, the Journey of Hope and Build America volunteers touched the lives of people with disabilities and their surrounding communities. They truly lived the mission of Push America and we couldn’t be more proud.

The Theta Mu chapter was honored to be represented by three individuals this summer, Mike Keough (JOH Cyclist), Andrew Moffett (JOH Crew), and NIck Druar (BAM). 13 Theta Mu PiKapps traveled to Washington DC to celebrate their accomplishments and arrival with brothers, friends, and family from around the country.
